Having anxiety is normal before going for a dental procedure. At Midtown Dental Studio, we want to do everything we can to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible. If you’re looking for a quick way to feel relaxed, we offer nitrous oxide before your procedure.

Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a combination of nitrogen and oxygen that you inhale through your nose while wearing a small mask. Doctors and dentists use this gas for patients who are anxious or uncooperative before a surgical procedure. Those who don’t respond well to local anesthesia or have overly sensitive gag reflexes also use this to relax. Nitrous oxide does not put you to sleep like other forms of anesthesia.

Even though nitrous oxide is safe and effective, it’s not recommended for everybody. There are several risk factors for certain people, so make sure to tell your dentist if you fall in one of the following categories:
Women in their first trimester of pregnancy
People with a vitamin B-12 deficiency
People with a history of drug abuse
People with a history of respiratory illness
Some dental procedures can be scary, but nerves shouldn’t stop you from getting them. If you need to relax before an operation, Midtown Dental Studio offers nitrous oxide to keep you calm enough during the entire process. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!
